Painting a Room

I have Mom and Dad Schmitt to thank for teaching me how to paint a room about fifteen years ago. I had never done it, partially because my mom wallpapered the rooms in our house. (What a job up those stairwells!)

So, I asked Josh to help me paint his room this summer.

Two weeks ago, Mike and I picked out a nice blue-green and then Josh and I set to work. He had a bit of a spill that got all over his feet and then just as I was finishing up with the white trim, I lost my balance and SPLAT! My paint splashed on me and on the nearest wall. I found paint flecks eight feet away and on the carpet. It wasn’t too bad to recover from the mess but my rib and shoulder hurt for weeks!

Yesterday, I bought some pretty material and am looking forward to making new curtains some time this fall. (If you know my sewing horror stories, you know I may have some trouble doing this, but hopefully, I learned from the last curtain-sewing adventure.) It’s fun to give this room a facelift despite the setbacks.

The News Anchors

For their Honors class last semester, Jenn, Ezra, and some other students produced a half-hour video summarizing some of the philosophy they had studied. Jenn and her friend, Ezra, were “news anchors.”

Here’s another screenshot from their video of Jenn interviewing Ezra, also playing a “Benedictine monk”, on proving the existence of God.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Avast there, me Hearties!

Jenny, her roommate, Emily, and some other Stetson shipmates had fun a-dressin’ up and a-talkin’ like pirates on International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

You can make merry every September 19th, too, Matey.

A Side of Florida Few Know

I am sitting at the kitchen table with a laptop instead of using my computer in the family room. I can see the family room from here and am hoping a small skink (lizard) will follow the trail of tiny romaine lettuce leaves I put down from the sofa to the porch door. I also am praying something else doesn’t come in while I have the door open a crack!

Also, a few weeks ago, a small frog got in the house right when we were trying to pack the car and take Jenny to college. I wanted to catch it, or chase it out while we knew where it was. Once we left, it could be anywhere! After a few failed attempts, we were finally able to scoot the frog out the front door.

One of the hazards of living in Florida!

Ben and Josh in Seattle

Ben and Josh had frequent flier miles that were going to expire this year, so they went to Seattle for a five-day trip to spend time with friends. They had a great time and apparently liked this caterpillar statue in a museum.

Jenny’s Summer Jobs

Jenn in slicker

Halfway through the summer, Jenny landed two part-time jobs. She sold merchandise at Sea World and also had a desk job at Campus Crusade’s headquarters.

One day, as she reported to work at Sea World, she got totally drenched. The wardrobe office gave her a change of uniform and a raincoat.

Jenn commented how different her two jobs were. One, where she was on her feet for hours, and the other in an office cubicle. She was glad to finally find work and had fun working in both places. She especially enjoyed working with the ladies in one of Campus Crusade’s donations departments.

Josh Is Ready for Interviews

P6210001

Josh had a summer break from his classes, so when he came down to visit us, we took him out to buy a suit. He had lost quite a lot of weight the last two years, so we were glad to get him a new suit. Starting in the fall of his senior year, he will be going to job fairs and job interviews.

He had fun striking different poses for the camera!

Visiting a New Neighbor

Ben is moved in to his new apartment this week and ready to start work on his first full-time permanent job on Monday.

Ben, Mike and Sus took three days to drive (31 hours round trip) with his car and our van packed with his things. We had most of Tuesday to help him unpack and run some errands.

We had barely unloaded the van when one of his “neighbors” dropped by to say “Hello.” It appears, though, that this little guy looks more interested in visiting the kitchen than getting to know the new neighbor from Florida!

A Gator Day

Yesterday, we were planning to watch the UF vs. FSU game on TV when we noticed our maple had turned a beautiful orange and the sky was blue. So we all went in the back yard with our orange and blue Gators shirts and took pictures!

Medieval Norwegian Helpdesk

We just love this video.

As you know, we are all computer buffs and Sus is Norwegian-American, so we get a big chuckle out of this every time. We hope you enjoy it, too.
